"All truth passes through three stages.
First, it is ridiculed.
Second, it is violently opposed.
Third, it is accepted as being self-evident."
Despite myself being a naturopathic doctor, homeopath, Bowen therapist, and neuroemotional technique (NET) practitioner, I am sympathetic to skepticism and even ridicule of homeopathy and naturopathic medicine.
I am also an electrical engineer, and was for many years very skeptical of alternative therapies, naturopathic medicine and particularly, homeopathy.
Homeopathy’s uneven track record in double-blind placebo controlled trials caused me to for many years be particularly opposed to homeopathy on principle.
Such opposition to homeopathy, however, rapidly disappeared once I received my first deep-acting, individually-prescribed homeopathic remedy.
Despite being such a skeptic - both prior to, and even while taking, my first individualized, constitutional homeopathic remedy - the results of the treatment were simply too immediate, pronounced, and sustained for me to reasonably dismiss.
There was something here.
Something I didn’t yet understand.
But something worthy of further investigation.
Reaffirmation of Homeopathic Efficacy
Over the intervening years, homeopathy’s significant power has become ever more apparent to me.
In particular, the many patients successfully treated with constitutional homeopathy in my practice has reaffirmed my personal experience with homeopathy.
But this is anecdotal evidence.
And therefore subject to bias and logical fallacy.
Homeopathy - Scientific Support & Opposition
There are many positive studies demonstrating the efficacy of homeopathy.
That said, there are also other studies suggesting that homeopathy is no more effective than placebo.
How is this possible?
If I gave everyone in my practice the same homeopathic remedy for a given symptom, without individualizing my homeopathic prescriptions to each patient’s unique constitution, I have no doubt that the vast majority of such prescriptions would be ineffective.
Scientific Models for Homeopathic Mechanism of Action
Modern models exist which explain homeopathy’s mechanism of action, incorporating, for instance, quantum mechanics and quantum entanglement.
Such models of homeopathic activity are ever evolving and quite complex.
Much like the practice of individualized, constitutional homeopathy itself.
Nobel-Prize Winning Scientist Supports Homeopathy
That said, many cutting-edge scientists - most notably 2008 Nobel Prize winner & virologist Dr. Luc Montagnier, and respected immunologist Dr. Jacques Benveniste – have been pivotal in the development of such physiological homeopathic models.
Such scientists were unfortunately also persecuted for their revolutionary theories.
Again, most notoriously, Drs. Montagnier & Benveniste.
This persecution occurred even though neither scientist had any pro-homeopathic agenda.
In fact, both men became associated with homeopathy only after their research independently yielded results which explained how homeopathy could work.
Mainstream Dismissal of Homeopathy
Seeming-improbable concepts such as homeopathy are often subjected to ridicule, opposed, or even dismissed off-hand by the mainstream scientific community & media.
Pockets of intelligent, informed, and balanced skepticism do exist.
However, many self-proclaimed "skeptics" instead fiercely & dogmatically proselytize mainstream conventional medicine with pseudo-religious zeal.
This is not true skepticism.
True Skepticism = No Preconceptions
True skepticism involves constantly challenging and refining one’s understanding of the world in light of ever-changing and evolving evidence.
Dogma Common To Homeopaths & Skeptics
In fairness, however, such dogmatic views are unfortunately not restricted to opponents of homeopathy.
Indeed, a distressingly-sizable sector of the constitutional homeopathic community is suprisingly resistant to new homeopathic theories and developments.
Closed-Minded Homeopaths Close Doors
And, by “new homeopathic theories & developments”, some of these homeopaths even take as “anytime in the last 150 years”!
Such homeopaths go so far as to use only remedies that were developed by Samuel Hahnemann.
The first homeopath.
Who died in in 1843.
Needless to say, this is shockingly close-minded.
A viewpoint inconsistent with a science.
Science is by its very nature constantly developing and evolving.
Such homeopaths are understandably an easy target of ridicule from the conventional medical community.
Leading all homeopaths to be painted with the same derisive brush.
Homeopathic & Medical Innovators Defy & Transcend Dogma
Such medical and scientific revolutionaries did not become trailblazers by making a single discovery, and then resting on their laurels.
Instead, they continued to search.
To push the boundaries of conventional knowledge and dogma throughout their lives.
Innovation, by its very nature, requires a willingness to defy & transcend dogma.
And a lifelong dedication to true skepticism.
Clinical Experience Supporting Homeopathy
My clinical experience with homeopathy also suggests that - for homeopathy to be truly effective – it must be uniquely tailored to each individual patient.
Homeopathic Mastery Facilitates Curative Results
Mastery of the skills required for individualized, constitutional homeopathic prescribing is rare, but needed for truly lasting, curative results.
Such homeopathic mastery requires:
- Many years of study
- Thousands of cured cases
- Collaboration with other masters, &
- Intense, lifelong focus & dedication.
This is understandably beyond what the average doctor would - or should - be reasonably expected to invest.
Individualized Constitutional Homeopathy – It’s Not About The Benjamins
Lifelong dedication to individualized, constitutional homeopathy is many things.
A labour of love.
What is it not?
An easy way to get rich quick.
Homeopathy Isn't Naturopathic Medicine's Plastic Surgery
Individualized, constitutional homeopathy can be lucrative.
Other naturopathic medical treatment modalities are much more directly lucrative.
(I’m looking at you, mesotherapy!)
(which, BTW, most definitely is the plastic surgery of naturopathic medicine ... :)
All of which makes specialization in constitutional homeopathy an unwise business decision!
Homeopathic “Cookbook” Prescribing – A Bad Aftertaste
If individualized, constitutional homeopathic prescribing is so difficult, how do so many alternative medical practitioners use homeopathy in their practices?
Simple - they don’t prescribe individually or constitutionally,
Instead, they take a shortcut.
The vast majority of practitioners using homeopathy prescribe via a pseudo-conventional, “cookbook” approach.
And why wouldn't they?
Homeopathic "Cookbooks" Increase Efficiency & Profits
Preparing a meal from a cookbook is just more efficient than customizing each meal to the diner’s individual tastes and unique nutritional requirements.
Which is why McDonald’s - and fast food in general - dominates the global culinary landscape.
Such fast food franchises are highly successful and lucrative.
However, fast food is also largely equated with obesity, hypertension, diabetes, & other negative health outcomes.
In other words ...
... McDonald’s is good for McDonald’s.
But is it good for you?
“Fast Food” Homeopathy – Widespread & Easily Acquired
So what’s the equivalent “fast food” of homeopathy?
Certainly the most common type of homeopathy used by the public.
Such over-the-counter, combination homeopathic remedies are widely self-prescribed on general indications - without individualization.
Rescue Remedy is a potentially-useful combination homeopathic remedy, with appropriate applications.
However, when used reflexively for broad, non-specific indications, like “anxiety” or “insomnia”, Rescue Remedy can easily become suppressive.
Whether it be achieved by conventional pharmaceuticals, naturopathic suppllements, or homeopathic remedies alike.
“Fast Food” Homeopathy – Ultimately Unhealthy
Consequently, prescribing on general indications and without true individualization is palliative at best.
It’s much less effective than individualized, constitutional homeopathic prescribing.
At worst, it can even be suppressive.
But wait, I thought “fast food” homeopathy was more efficient?
Yeah – for the homeopath or homeopathic remedy supplier.
The individual patient is S.O.L.
“Fast Food” Homeopathy = Increased Skepticism of Homeopathy
Such “fast food” homeopathy – its commercialistic undertones and middling results alike - helps promote widespread public skepticism of all homeopathy.
Unfortunately, this widespread distrust of all homeopathy extends even to individualized, constitutional homeopathic remedies, prescribed by practitioners with decades of practice experience, and devoted to lifelong learning, innovation, and curative outcomes for their patients.
Challenge to Homeopathic Skeptics
I challenge those skeptical of homeopathy.
Be true skeptics.
Challenge your preconceived notions of homeopathy.
Obtain an individually-prescribed homeopathic remedy.
From a well-respected & experienced constitutional homeopath.
Then you can form a truly balanced and informed opinion on how homeopathy can help you heal.
And, I am confident, you will be pleasantly surprised.
